Course Description

The Third Engineer Certificate of Competency marks the transition from rating to engineering officer status. This comprehensive program prepares candidates for responsible positions in ship engine rooms, covering marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and engineering watch management.

Third Engineers are responsible for maintaining and operating engine room machinery under the supervision of senior engineers. This intensive course provides the technical knowledge and practical skills essential for competent performance as a junior engineering officer.

Entry Requirements

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age: 20 years
  • Hold engine room rating certificate
  • Minimum 12 months engine room sea service
  • Completed approved pre-sea engineering course
  • Valid medical fitness certificate
